Sümela Monastery Sümela Monastery, built on a steep cliff at the foot of Karadağ overlooking the Altındere valley, within the borders of Altındere Village in Trabzon’s Maçka District, is popularly known as “Mother Mary”. The structure, which is about 300 meters above the valley, has continued the tradition of establishing monasteries outside the city, in forests, caves and waterfronts.

We are starting our journey towards Sumela monastery. We continue our panoramic journey through the valley of the Golden Stream and arrive in Montenegro, where the Sumela Monastery is located. First of all, we take our souvenir pictures from the viewing terrace and leave our vehicle in the car park. We reach SumelaManastir by walking on the path for about 15 minutes. After our one-hour break, we take our place in our vehicle and head towards Zigana mountain. We stop for 1 hour for lunch in our restaurant located in the lush pine forests. During our break, you can eat, take photos and enjoy the fresh air. After our 1 hour free time for our next stop, Karaca Cave, for our Karaca Cave trip, we start our return journey. Our cute town, Hamsi, which is the homeland of the rice pudding on the skirts of the Zigana mountain, stops by the village and we look at the taste of the magnificent milk pudding.
